post-race meal
After my 4:15 (which was as predicted, though not quite as fast as hoped), I had a chicken and bacon sub at Subway, two cookies and an iced tea. Actually, before that, walking home from the track, I had a Blizzard from Dairy Queen. I ate lots more crazy stuff this weekend, but I suppose that will have to wait for another post.

That 4:35.8 is pretty good for a 47 year old with a family and kid(s)...
What is this Blizzard you keep having? I gotta try it out...
So, thanks to Johnny-Jay, Coach and Mountain Runner extraordinaire (who recently qualified to represent Canada at the World Mountain Running Championships for the second year in a row) ok, ok, I better stop or he won't approve this "comment", I now have my own personal supply of greens.
As far as efficacy goes, I still believe it is better to eat a well-balanced diet and get everything you need from actual food as the absorption is simply so much more effective. However I seem to be a) running more miles than I have ever run in my life and b) NOT eating a balanced diet and c) exhausted all the time, so I think the greens are a good call. Although I have to confess that given my urine is fluroescent yellow for three hours after taking them, I have this sneaking suspicion that I am passing most of the goods straight through without much absorption happening but hopefully some of it is sticking around and maybe this will improve with time (as one might think given the instruction that first time users take only 1/3 of the normal dose).
As far as taste goes, remember the scene in the most recent Harry Potter book? The one where Dumbledore is forced to drink a draught that is horrendously unpleasant and he begs Harry to let him stop but Harry's duty is to force him to continue... that scene comes to mind when I drink the greens. The taste is... unplesant to say the least. However it does feed right into my twisted athlete mentality of "if it's unplesant, it MUST be good for me" and the act of drinking it does reaffirm my commitment towards training (warped, I know). And, as an added bonus, it makes my co-workers think I'm tough.
All in all, two slightly nauseated thumbs up for the greens.

Les : They sell huge bags of cut-up brocoli at Costco, it costs a few bucks a bag and you just have to go home and put a handful in some water to boil. Or eat them raw. At work. On the way to work. On your way home from work. I don't LOVE brocoli but I'll bet it tastes better than Greens+ (not that I've tried it or anything nor am I any expert on nutrition, far from it...)
